Christabelle, the Maltese representative for Eurovision 2018, has filmed her postcard for the contest over the past two days in Lisbon.
The postcard, which according to Christabelle’s social media will feature her on horseback, will be used to introduce her performance in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2018 on 10 May.
This is the first engagement for Christabelle on her road to Eurovision 2018 after winning the Malta Eurovision Song Contest earlier this month. Since winning, she has met with the Prime Minister of Malta and has also been appointed as an ambassador for the Maltese President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society with a focus on mental health.
Christabelle’s entry for Malta, Taboo addresses this theme of mental health and was written by the singer alongside Johnny Sanchez, Muzu and Thomas G:son.
With the 2018 contest now just a few months away, a number of the already selected artists have been filming postcards in preparation. The artists from Austria, France, Czech Republic and Georgia have all been spotted in Lisbon and elsewhere in Portugal.
Christabelle won the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in a final against 15 other songs with a total of 133 points. She follows Claudia Faniello as the Maltese Eurovision representative. In 2017, Claudia finished in 16th place in her semi-final in Kyiv with Breathlessly.
Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest
Malta debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 and was represented by Joe Grech and the song “Marija L-Maltija”, which finished last. Malta competed again in 1972 and 1975 but then withdrew until their return in 1991. During the 1990s Malta only once finished outside of the top 10, and in 1998 they came within just 7 points of victory. It was Chiara who brought the country their 3rd place finish in 1998, and who went on to finish in 2nd at the 2005 contest in Kyiv. The only other artist to finish 2nd for Malta is Ira Losco, who was 12 points away from victory in 2002. They are the most successful country never to have won the Eurovision Song Contest.
