Hungary is aiming to host the 2023 editions of Eurovision Young Dancers and Eurovision Choir of the Year while the country hosts the European Capital of Culture.
Hungary is currently on the search for the city that will host the European Capital of Culture 2023, with eight cities vying for the title. As part of the bidding process all of the cities have been asked to put a bid together including plans to host Eurovision Young Dancers and Eurovision Choir of the Year.
Eger, one of the cities vying for the title has spoken about how they could host an “outstanding event” by hosting two of the Eurovision family of events. Hungary is one of the most active countries participating in the Eurovision Family of Events, with the country currently taking part in; Eurovision Young Musicians, Eurovision Choir of the Year and the Eurovision Song Contest.
Hungary was among eight countries to take part in the debut edition of Eurovision Choir of the Year last year in Riga. While they have not participated in Eurovision Young Dancers since 1999.
Hungary has previously tried to host Eurovision Young Musicians but lost out to Cologne, Germany during the bidding process. Hungarian national broadcaster MTVA proposed hosting Eurovision Young Musicians 2016 in Budapest, but lost out to German broadcaster WDR. At the time MTVA has encouraged to bid again to host the competition in 2018.
