The sixth artist featured in our “Who Is” series for the Eurovision 2018 season is Jessica Mauboy from Australia.
At the beginning of December last year, it was announced that 28-year-old Jessica Mauboy would represent Australia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Let’s get to know a bit more about her.
Jessica Mauboy was born in Darwin, Australia on 4th August 1989. The singer rose to fame after she appeared on Australian idol in 2006, where she came runner-up. Since then, she has released three studio albums, the last of which was released in 2013. Jessica can also play the piano, and she has also had acting experience as she made her debut in the 2010 film Bran Nue Dae.
Jessica is no stranger to Eurovision, as she performed on the 2014 stage in Copenhagen as the interval act, where she performed her song “Sea of Flags”. Since 2012, she has also headlined numerous tours, and supported the likes of Beyoncé and Chris Brown.
Jessica Mauboy will represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal. She was internally selected by Australian broadcaster SBS, but her song for the contest has not yet been revealed.
Australia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 as part of celebrations marking 60 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. Australia has broadcast the contest since 1983 making it the country which watched the contest for the longest period of time before taking part in the contest. In 2016 Australia was represented by Dami Im with the song “Sound of Silence”. She brought Australia 2nd place in the final scoring 511 points, she was just 23 points away from victory.
