LTV have announced the acts who will perform in the first semi-final of Latvia’s Eurovision selection show ‘Supernova’, which will take place this Saturday.
The Latvian broadcaster, LTV, has announced the names of the acts who will perform in this Saturday’s first ‘Supernova’ semi-final. Latvian singer Dons, who attempted to represent the country in 2014 with the song “Pēdējā vēstule”, will perform his new single “Varenliels” during the show. Some familiar faces for Eurovision fans will also be present, with Aija Andrejeva (better known as Aisha) who represented the country in 2010 with “What For?” and Agnese Rakovska of Triana Park also being billed to perform.
These two former Eurovision representatives had some words of wisdom for this year’s ‘Supernova’ participants, with Agnese highlighting the importance of the competition for the artists’ careers:
Supernova is an opportunity to get a new professional experience – experience the intensity of your attempts, the possibilities of technical solutions, understand the specifics of the live broadcast, and experience all the preparation stresses on your skin. In Latvia, the equivalent can not be enjoyed elsewhere.
She also claimed that the show was a huge challenge, but one that was worth it. Aija also discussed the highlights of her Eurovision experience:
… it was a huge experience! I saw a completely different world that changed my previous perceptions and made it possible to realise that elsewhere the reality is different from ours… Participation in Eurovision is an opportunity to be used! … Of course, we all want to win… The key is, however, to participate and to understand for themselves what this experience gives us, and how to use it later.
This year’s edition of ‘Supernova’ will take place over four consecutive weeks, on the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th of February. Twenty-one artists will compete to represent Latvia in Lisbon, with seven performing in each of the three semi-finals. Two acts will qualify from each semi-final, making up a six-act grand final. The winner will follow on from last year’s Latvian representatives Triana Park, who finished in 18th place in their semi-final with “Line”.
