Salvador Sobral has been discharged from hospital after receiving a heart transplant.
Yesterday Salvador Sobral, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, was discharged from hospital. He had been in there for four months and received a heart successful heart transplant at the beginning of December.
The announcement on his official Facebook page states:
It is with great satisfaction that we share with you that Salvador Sobral has already been discharged during the afternoon of yesterday, January 11, 2018.
The singer made a very satisfactory and uncomplicated recovery. As usual, in the postoperative period of the transplantation, it maintains a restriction of exposure to large numbers of people. Thank you in advance for the respect for this space that involves a physical distance. Let’s avoid the hugs. The Savior has long been embraced by all.
Soon we will have news about the return to the stage!
Thanks for the warmth and understanding.
The singer has suffered from ill-health for some time. He missed the first week of rehearsals for Eurovision 2017 and was replaced by his sister, Luisa Sobral, composer of his winning entry Amar Pelos Dois. In September, Salvador announced that he was taking a break from performing in order to focus on his health. A farewell concert took place on 8th September in the gardens of the Estoril Casino, Lisbon.
In May, Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision Song Contest for Portugal for the first time in history. His performance of Amar Pelos Dois earned 758 points and was the highest scoring entry in the history of the contest.
After the contest, Salvador was greeted by thousands of fans in Portugal. He was also honoured by the Portuguese Parliament and recently picked up a European Border Breakers Award for his achievements.
