Filomena Cautela, Sílvia Alberto, Daniela Ruah and Catarina Furtado have all been announced as the hosts for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. The four presenters will present the two semi-finals and the grand final. This is the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest that four presenters will host a show and it is the first time since 2013 that there will be no male presenters.
Who Are the Hosts?
Filomena Cautela is an actress and presenter. She has acted in numerous films and television shows, including the teen drama Morangos com Açúcar (Strawberries with Sugar). Her first presenting job was with MTV Portugal in 2004. She currently presents the late-night talk show 5 Para a Meia-Noite (5 to Midnight) on RTP1. Last year, she was the green room presenter for Festival da Canção and was the Portuguese spokesperson for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Sílvia Alberto has been presenting since the age of 19, when she presented Clube Disney (The Disney Club). She went on to present a variety of talent shows, including Idols, Master Chef, Dancing with the Stars, Portugal’s Got Talent and Operação Triunfo. She has presented every edition of Festival da Canção since 2008 and provided commentary on the Eurovision Song Contest for Portuguese viewers in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
Daniela Ruah was born in Boston, Massachusetts but moved to Portugal with her family at the age of five. She later studied acting in London and New York. She starred in the George Lucas film “Red Tails” and currently stars as Special Agent Kensi Blye in NCIS: Los Angeles. She also won the first season of the Portuguese version of Dancing With the Stars in 2006.
Catarina Furtado is one of most well-known television presenters in Portugal. She is the daughter of journalist Joaquim Furtado, who famously broke the news of the Carnation Revolution in 1974, which overthrew the Estado Novo regime. She has been working for RTP for 14 years and currently presents The Voice of Portugal. She also hosted Festival da Canção 2017, alongside Sílvia Alberto.
