Czech Republic: Six Entries for National Final Revealed

Today, Czech broadcaster ČT have revealed the six artists and entries that will be competing in Eurovision Song CZ to represent Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon.

The six artists will compete in the national selection show on Monday 29th of January 2018.

This is the first time since 2008 that Czech Republic have opted for a national selection. The nation have previously been choosing their entry internally in 2009 as well as 2015-2017 when Czech Republic returned after a five year break from the contest.

Among the six competing entries in the national selection, three of them have been written by their respective artists. One of these entries will have to be rewritten should it win the selection and compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is due to the fact that the lyrics contain expletive language. This does not comply with the rules set by EBU for all songs chosen to be in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Another of the selected entries was written by Václav Noid Bárta. Vaclav represented Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 in Vienna alongside Marta Jandová. Their entry ‘Hope Never Dies’ finished in 13th place in the second semi final, therefore failing to qualify for the grand final.

The six acts and songs competing in the selection are as follows:

Mikolas Josef – Lie to Me (self-written by Mikolas Josef)

Pavel Callta – Never Forget (self-written by Pavel Callta)

Eva Burešová – Fly (written by Václav Noid Bárta and David Vostrý)

Eddie Stoilow – We Rule This World (written by Jan Žampa and Jan Martínek)

Doctor Victor – StandUP (self-written by Doctor Victor)

Debbi – High on Love (written by Ellie Wyatt, Jon Hällgren, Mahan Moin and DWB)

Czech Republic are hoping that 2018 will see their fortunes reversed. After finally qualifying for the final for the first time ever in 2016, last year Martina Bárta could only manage 13th Place in the semi final with her entry ‘My Turn’. This meant that once more, Czech Republic were not present in the final in Kyiv.

The country went on to participate for a further two years before withdrawing from the contest after the 2009 edition in Moscow where scored nul points. 1. I can see “High on Love” as a borderline qualifier. The others will have no chance I assume!
