Tickets are on sale now for the grand final of Melodi Grand Prix 2018 which will take place on 10 March 2018 at the Oslo Spektrum Arena.
Tickets for the Norwegian national final for Eurovision 2018 are available on Ticketmaster. This year, fans will also be able to buy tickets for the official after party, attended by the 10 participating artists.
No changes to the format for MGP used in recent years have been announced, so it is expected that the Norwegian representative for Lisbon will be chosen over two rounds of voting.
Almost 1200 songs were submitted to Melodi Grand Prix 2018 (almost 200 more than for the previous edition), a new record for the contest.
In December, Norwegian media reported that one of the competing artists is expected to be Alexander Rybak, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with Fairytale. Past Norwegian Eurovision entrants Stella Mwangi (2011) and Alexander Walmann (2017 with JOWST) are also expected to be on the short-list.
The Melodi Grand Prix is currently Norway’s largest music televised show and is followed by over 1.3 million viewers each year. This year, the show will be hosted by Kåre Magnus Bergh and Silya Nymoen. Last editions winner JOWST and Aleksander Walmann represented the Scandinavian nation in Kyiv and achieved a 10th position in the Eurovision Final with a total of 158 points.
Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest
Norway debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, and have won the contest three times – in 1985, 1995 and 2009. The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
