Singer songwriter, Neon Hitch has been revealed as the third member of the San Marinese selection jury.
British singer songwriter Neon Hitch has been revealed as the final member of San Marino’s jury in their Eurovision 2018 selection process. She rose to fame in 2011 when she featured on the “Ass Back Home” with Gym Class Heroes, which charted across Europe and the United States. In 2016 she released her first studio album, “Anarchy”. Alongside performing, she has also written songs for Kesha and Cimorelli.
The eleven that will take part in 1in360, the selection show that will select San Marino’s next Eurovision participant (including three already known wildcards) are:
- Emma Sandström (Winner of the fan club vote) (Finland)
- Giovanni Montalbano (Winner of the web voting) (Italy)
- Irol (Wildcard San Marino artist)
- Sara de Blue (Austria)
- Franklin Calleja (Malta)
- Jessika Muscat (Malta)
- Judah Gavra (Israel)
- Tinashe Makura (Zimbabwe)
- Camilla North (Norway)
- Sebastian Schmidt (Germany)
- Jenifer Besky (Germany)
After the wildcards had been selected, the eight remaining places were decided by SMRTV and 1 in 360. The eleven candidates will compete over seven live recorded shows, which will be broadcast on the internet and via satellite TV across Europe in January 2018. The final of the San Marino selection will take place in late February.
Over 9 years of participation San Marino have only once qualified for the Eurovision final when Valentina Monetta represented the country with “Maybe (Forse)” in Copenhagen. She finished in 24th place with 14 points, San Marino’s best result to date. This year Valentina represented her country for the 4th time, this time joined on stage by American singer Jimmie Wilson. The pair’s entry “Spirit of the Night” finished in last place in its semi-final in Kyiv, scoring just 1 point.
San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest
San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. In 2017, Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for the fourth time alongside Jimmie Wilson with “Spirit of the Night.” The pair finished last in their semi-final with just 1 point.
