Ceska Televize will reveal the artists and the songs competing in the Czech national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
Ceska Televize has continued to hint and tease at the artists competing in the countries first national selection process since 2008. The Czech national final was recently announced by the Head of Delegation, Jan Bors. Six artists are expected to compete for the Czech ticket to Lisbon. The winner will be determined through a combination of international jury vote and vote through the official Eurovision app. The six finalists have been chosen from 400 entries by an expert jury.
Today Ceska Televize released a short clip featuring snippets of the filming of the six music videos from the six competing artists;
Two names widely speculated to be involved (according to Czech fan site escportal.cz) are Mikolas Josef with Lie to Me and Jakub Ondra with Reasons to Love You.
The Czech Republic will return to a national final for the first time since 2008. Tereza Kerndlova won the 2008 Czech national final for Eurovision with Have Some Fun but finished in last place in her semi final at the contest in Belgrade. This year, Martina Barta was selected internally with her song My Turn but also failed to make it to the Grand Final in Kyiv.
Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest
The Czech Republic debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with the band Kabát and the song “Malá dáma”, they finished last in the semi-final scoring just 1 point from Estonia. The country went on to participate for a further two years before withdrawing from the contest after the 2009 edition in Moscow where Gipsy.cz scored nul points. In 2016 the Czech Republic qualified for their first final, Gabriela Guncikova finished 25th in the final with the song “I Stand”.
