Margarida Mercês de Mello and Luís Moreira have been revealed as the commentators for RTP’s coverage of Eurovision Young Dancers 2017.
Television presenter Margarida Mercês de Mello and dancer Luís Moreira will guide Portuguese viewers through the final of Eurovision Young Dancers 2017, this Saturday. Margarida Mercês de Mello has been a presented at RTP since 1978 and hosted the Portuguese Eurovision selection process on a number of occasions in the 1980s. Luís Moreira in contrast is a former dancer at the Companhia Nacional de Bailado.
Raquel Fidalgo will represent Portugal at this year’s Eurovision Young Dancers. Born in 1999, Raquel began dancing at just five-years-old. In 2010, she entered the National Ballet School of Portugal, and has performed in many shows and competitions both in Portugal and globally. Most recently, she completed her internship at the National Ballet Company of Portugal, where she now works. Raquel realised that he wanted to become a professional dancer after she performed as Mascha in the Nutcracker in seventh grade.
The fifteenth edition of Eurovision Young Dancers will see dancers from eight participating countries compete for the crown. This year, the event will take place in the Czech capital Prague on Saturday 16th December.

- Malta – Denise Buttigieg
- Norway – Anna Louise Amundsen
- Poland – Paulina Bidzinska
- Portugal – Raquel Fidalgo
- Slovenia – Patricija Crnkovič
- Sweden – Christoffer Collins
What is Eurovision Young Dancers?
First held in 1985 a total of 37 countries have competed at least once in the contest, including Canada in 1987. The competition is open to young dancers who are aged between 16 and 21 years old. Each country is represented by either a solo dancer or a couple, who perform a routine of their choosing for the jury. The jury will select two acts to go through to the final round which is a 90 second dance off. Each dancer is given 45 seconds to perform and impress the judges, at the end of the performances the judges select the winner.
