Viki Singh will participate in A Dal 2018, following the withdrawal of a second band from the Hungarian selection process.
Nemzenekar who were due to take part in next years Hungarian selection process, has withdrawn following last weeks A Dal press conference. In a statement the band added;
After the press conference on 6 December 2017, there were unforeseen reasons and other obligations therefore we can not commit ourselves in the coming months to the specified dates of rehearsals, recordings and live broadcasts. With a regret we leave the competition
Nemzenekar has been replaced by Viki Singh, who has previously taken part in the Hungarian selection process on multiple occasions. Viki will be performing the song “Butterfly House”.
A Dal 2018 will begin on the 20th of January 2018 and will conclude on the 24th of February. The competition will take in three heats, two semi finals and the grand final. All shows will be hosted by Krista Rátonyi and Freddie, the Hungarian representative in 2016.
In addition, before the competition begins there will be two special programmes broadcast on the 6th and 13th of January celebrating the last six years of the A Dal competition. The winner of A Dal will represent Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. There will also be two further awards given out: “Best Lyrics of A Dal 2018” and “New Talent of A Dal 2018”.
Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest
Hungary debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, they were represented by Friderika Bayer and the song “Kinek mondjam el vetkeimet”. She went on to finish in 4th place scoring a total of 122 points and four sets of 12 points. This result remains’ Hungary’s best in their history in the contest. Hungary participated from 1994 to 1994 before withdrawing until 2005, the country didn’t return again until 2008. Hungary then once again withdrew in 2010 before returning in 2011. Since their return in 2011 Hungary has qualified for the final every year.
