The Austrian artist for Eurovision 2018 will be revealed tomorrow, Tuesday 5 December 2017.
The news was revealed on Facebook by Eberhard Forcher the Austrian Radio DJ at the ORF hit radio station Ö3. According to Forcher, the Austrian representative will be revealed on the Ö3-Wecker (Alarm Clock) programme tomorrow morning. The show is broadcast from 5am-9am (CET).
Last year, Forcher was responsible for approaching Nathan Trent to represent Austria shortly after Nathan released his debut single Like It Is in June 2016. After deliberations by the Eurovision team at the Austrian broadcaster ÖRF, Nathan was chosen internally to represent his country in Lisbon. Once again this year Forcher was commissioned by ÖRF to nominate potential artists to represent Austria in Lisbon.
The result of ÖRF’s internal artist selection for 2018 will be revealed tomorrow to an estimated 2 million listeners in Austria on the country’s most popular morning radio show. Eurovision fans can follow the show online.
The Austrian artist will be the fifth artist revealed for Eurovision 2018. Already known are Waylon for the Netherlands, Saara Aalto for Finland, Aisel for Azerbaijan and Laura Groeseneken for Belgium.
In 2017, Nathan Trent and his song Running on Air finished 16th in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest with a total of 93 points, Nathan scored all of his points with the jury as he scored nul points from the public.
Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest
Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
