One of the three Wildcard acts in the San Marino national final will be San Marinese.
It has been revealed that San Marinese broadcaster SMRTV and 1 in 360 will choose a wildcard act who is from San Marino to participate in the live shows of the San Marino national final. The other two wildcard acts will be decided by Eurovision fan clubs and web voting. The deadline for the wildcard votes is 1st December at 13:00 CET. All three wildcard acts will be announced on 15th December.
Seven remaining spots on the line-up will be decided internally by SMRTV and 1 in 360 out of the hundreds that entered in the competition. In total, ten candidates will be invited to the first of seven live recorded shows, which will be broadcast on the internet and via satellite TV across Europe in January 2018. The final of the San Marino selection will take place in late February. One of the jurors for the selection process will be Zoë Straub who represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
There are also some familiar names who have entered the selection process including Dado Topic (Croatia, Eurovision 2007 with Dragonfly), Karl William Lund (UK national final 2016), Mahan Moin (Melodifestivalen 2014) and Emma Sandstrom (UMK 2017). The two entries from San Marino come from Alibi and Gianluigi Colucci.
San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. In 2017, Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for the fourth time alongside Jimmie Wilson with “Spirit of the Night.” The pair finished last in their semi-final with just 1 point.
