It has been confirmed today that Swedish pop music trio Alcazar will not be competing in the upcoming Melodifestivalen 2018.
Despite the group having a song they wished to send to the competition, producer of Melodifestivalen Christer Björkman has not included Alcazar in the final line-up of the 2018 competition.
Rumours had begun about Alcazar’s presence in Melodifestivalen 2018 after member Lina Hedlund uploaded a video on her Instagram account.
On the video, Lina made the following announcement:
On Tuesday you will know what happens to Alcazar in 2018.
This date coincides with SVT’s announcement of the full line up for this year’s Melodifestivalen. This had many fans across Sweden and the rest of Europe believe that they would indeed be included in this line up.
Alcazar have confirmed that they had applied for their sixth appearance in the contest however producer Christer Björkman was remaining quiet about their position. However over the weekend it was confirmed by Christer and the editorial team that Alcazar had not been successful in their attempt.
SVT will reveal the full line up of 28 artists that will be competing in Melodifestivalen on Tuesday 28th of November 2017. The competition is set to take place next year, starting on Saturday the 3rd of February and finishing on Saturday the 10th of March.
David Lindgren will return to host the competition, having hosted this year’s competition alongside Clara Henry and Hasse Andersson.
Alcazar, known for their schlager disco tracks are no strangers to the Swedish selection show, competing in 2003 and 2005 as a four-piece. 2009 saw the group, now a three-piece return to the competition for the third time. As the ongoing three-piece they once again returned to the competition in 2010 and finally in 2014.
The best placing for Alcazar at Melodifestivalen is third place which they achieved in 2003, 2005 and 2014. They have never won the competition and therefore never represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest.
