A total of 37,000 people in Italy watched the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
It has been revealed that 37,000 people in Italy watched the Junior Eurovision Song Contest last night. These are the lowest viewing figures for Italy to date. The pre-show broadcast on Rai Gulp brought in a total of 24,000 viewers, with the actual show broadcasting from 16:00 – 18:15 CET bringing in 37,000 viewers. The average amount of viewers from this channel in this timeslot is 57,000, and so the viewing figures are down by 20,000.
The viewing figures for the previous contests are as follows:
- 2014 – 151,000 viewers on average
- 2015 – 80,386 viewers on average
- 2016 – 50,000 viewers on average
On average, 32,000 viewers tuned in for Maria Iside Fiore’s performance. This is a decrease from last year, as 49,000 viewers tuned in to watch Fiamma Boccia. Viewing figures peaked yesterday as 65,000 people tuned in to watch Mariana Venancio from Portugal.
Last nights Junior Eurovision Song Contest was the second to be held on a Sunday afternoon, following changes to the contest in 2016. Furthermore, online voting and changes to the rules regarding English lyrics in songs were changed.
Maria Iside Fiore represented Italy at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest. With her song “Scelgo” (My Choice), she finished in 11th position with 86 points.

Italy debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. Their first and only win to date was on their debut, when Vincenzo Cantiello came in 1st place with 159 points with his song “Tu Primo Grande Amore”. Their worst result was in 2015 when twins Chiara & Martina came 16th with 34 points with their song “Viva”. Italy has placed 3rd once, in the most recent 2016 contest with Fiamma Boccia and her song “Cara Mamma”, which received 209 points. Since their debut, Italy have participated in every contest.
