The fan club shortlist for 1in360, San Marino’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, has been revealed.
700 acts have been shortlisted for the fan club vote. Club members now have until December 1 at 13:00 CET to vote for their favourites. The act with the most votes will receive a spot in the 1in360 live shows. The full list of shortlisted acts can be seen here.
In total, ten candidates will be invited to the first of seven live recorded shows, which will be broadcast on the internet and via satellite TV across Europe in January 2018.
Once the final three entrants have been decided, the songs that they would potentially take to Eurovision will be decided internally and performed at the live final, which will take place in late February. One of the jurors for the selection process will be Zoë Straub who represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
There are also some familiar names who have entered the selection process including Dado Topic (Croatia, Eurovision 2007 with Dragonfly), Karl William Lund (UK national final 2016), Mahan Moin (Melodifestivalen 2014) and Emma Sandstrom (UMK 2017). The two entries from San Marino come from Alibi and Gianluigi Colucci.
San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest
San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. In 2017, Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for the fourth time alongside Jimmie Wilson with “Spirit of the Night.” The pair finished last in their semi-final with just 1 point.
