Kazakhstan: Channel 31 Has Ambitions For Eurovision & Junior Eurovision

Channel 31 in Kazakhstan has revealed to Eurofestivales, that they have ambitions to participate in both Eurovision and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Private broadcaster, Channel 31 which has sent a delegation to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 has revealed greater ambitions for the Eurovision family of events. Sergey Konstantinov at Channel 31 revealed that;

We want to debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 and the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. We will also broadcast both the contests between 2017-2019.

Mr Konstantinov confirmed that Channel 31 is in discussions with the European Broadcasting Union to join as a full member. The reveal of Channel 31’s ambitions come at the same time that Khabar Agency has been broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest live for over five years.

Eurofestivales also asked whether the broadcaster has wider ambitions to take part in other Eurovision Family Events such as Young Dancers or Young Musicians, to which Mr Konstantinov stated they are not interested currently.

Junior Eurovision 2017

A group of singers from the Kazakh televised contest “I’m A Singer” will perform at the Euroclub in Tbilisi. They will be accompanied on their trip to Georgia by other members of the delegation and supported by the Minister of Culture and Sports in Kazakhstan.

This is not the first time that a Kazakh delegation has been sent to the Junior Eurovision. A delegation of young singers from the country also performed at the Euroclub during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Kyiv.

If these plans were to suceed, this would mark the country’s first participation in any EBU event. Kazakhstan currently takes part the ABU TV Song Festival, having done so every year since 2015. They were also one of the most successful countries in Turkvision, winning the 2014 edition with “Izin korem” by Zhanar Dugalova and coming second in Bala Turkvision, the children’s edition of the contest, with “Samga” by Erkin Tursynhan.

Khabar Agency has been an associate member of the EBU since January 1 2016. As only full members of the EBU can participate in the contest, Khabar Agency must be invited by the EBU to participate. Kazakhstan was not featured on the list of participants for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, which will be held in Lisbon.

  1. Rules for Kazakhstan to remember for their JESC debut next year:

    * Age range is 9-14
    * Song lyrics should be mostly or fully in Kazakh
    * Up to six (6) performers on stage
    * Competing songs need to last up to three (3) full minutes
    * Have fun 🙂
