Portuguese singer and winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Salvador Sobral has won an EBBA award.
The EBBAs (short for European Boarder Breakers Awards) announced the singer as one of the recipients of the 2018 awards for achievement in musical success abroad.
The announcement of this award came this morning by Antena 3 in the presence of EBBA Awards organisers Ana Paolo and Nuno Galopim.
Artists considered for this award must have a high level of success in the music industry across Europe between the 1st of August 2016 and the 31st of July 2017. During this time Salvador Sobral released his debut album “Excuse Me” which reached the top of the Portuguese charts.
Salvador however reached international success when his song “Amar pelos dois” won the Eurovision Song Contest this year with 758 Points. Not only was this the first victory at the contest for Portugal after 49 attempts, but also it was the highest scoring entry in the history of the contest.
The award will be formally given to Salvador at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, The Netherlands on the 17th of January 2018.
This is the second Eurovision artist who has been presented with this award this year. Blanche who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest was announced as the second recipient of this award last week. Blanche also had success at the contest this year with her song “City Lights” finishing in 4th Place.
