On Sunday it was revealed through the French branch of OGAE that there will be a press conference with regards to ‘Destination Eurovision’ on Monday the 11th of December.
Destination Eurovision is the national final selection process that will be used by France this year in order to select their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon in 2018. Destination Eurovision will be organised by France 2 and ITV Studios France.
The press conference will be held at the headquarters of France Télévisions in the morning of the 11th of December 2017.
This follows an initial conference held back in October where it was revealed French singer Garou would be the leader of the process. It was also confirmed that approximately 15 artists would be competing in the competition that will be judged by both the French public and a panel that will consist of both French and international jurors. Finally, in the initial conference was the reveal that this multi-week selection show will take place in January 2018.
This second conference is expected to finalise the exact format for the selection as well as specific dates. The competing artists may also be revealed in the conference.
This will mark the first time since 2014 that France will be holding their own national final. Back in 2014 their artist TWIN TWIN finished in last place in the final with just 2 points for their entry “Moustache”. This was the first time the Big 5 Nation finished in last place. France have since opted for an internal selection for the following three contests.
In the last two years France’s fortunes at the contest have reversed. Amir (their entry in 2016) is particularly credited for his efforts, having finished in 6th Place with “J’ai cherché”. This was the first time since 2009 that they finished in the top 10. This year France were represented by Alma where her song “Requiem” finished a respectable 12th Place.
