Sweden: More Artists for Melodifestivalen 2018 Confirmed?

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has revealed the names of four more artists that will apparently compete in Melodifestivalen. These artists are Méndez, Benjamin Ingrosso, Felix Sandman and Sigrid Bernson.

Méndez has competed in Melodifestivalen twice before. In 2002, he finished second with Adrenaline and in 2003, he finished fifth in the Andra Chansen Round with Carnaval. He is reportedly planning a comeback this year, partly due to the increased interest in Latin music, such as the worldwide hit “Despacito”.

Benjamin Ingrosso is also said to be working with his team to find a suitable song for the competition. Benjamin won Lilla Melodifestivalen in 2006 with Hej Sofia and was one of Sweden’s three participants in MGP Nordic 2006. He made his debut in the adult Melodifestivalen last year and finished fifth in the final with “Good Lovin’ “.

Another former Melodifestivalen participant due to return is Felix Sandman. Felix is a member of the band FO&O, which came eleventh in last year’s Melodifestivalen with Gotta Thing About You, and is rumoured to be taking part in this year’s edition as a solo artist.

Sigrid Bernson is the only artist named to have never participated in Melodifestivalen before. She is a dancer on Let’s Dance, the Swedish version of Dancing With the Stars and had a hit song this summer with This Summer. If she does take part, she may be competing against her boyfriend Samir Badran, one half of the duo Samir & Viktor, who are also reportedly taking part.

Melodifestivalen is a six-week long show that is used to determine who will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. A total of 2771 songs were submitted to the contest for 2018. Already on the line-up for Melodifestivalen 2018 is Stiko Per Larsson, who won the competition P4 Nästa a few months ago. His victory in the competition means that he will take part in the next edition of Melfest.

Melodifestivalen 2018 will take place in the following locations:

  • 03/02/2018 (Semi Final 1): Löfbergs Arena, Karlstad
  • 10/02/2018 (Semi Final 2): Scandinavium, Gothenburg
