Eurovision 2017 winner Salvador Sobral will be taking a break from his musical career due to his health.
Following the advice from medics, Eurovision 2017 winner Salvador Sobral cancelled three of his concerts last week, announcing the news on his Facebook page. These concerts were to take place on 31st August, and the 1st and 2nd of September. At the time of the announcement, he stated that new dates for these concerts would be announced soon.
Unfortunately, yesterday evening the singer then announced that he will be taking a break from his musical career. A farewell concert will take place this upcoming Friday 8th September, in which the entrance is free of charge. This will take place in the gardens of the Estoril Casino.
In the video he posted, he stated that:
“It is no secret to anyone that my health is fragile. I have a problem, and I have to give my body to science and withdraw from the stage and music in general, to a world where my problems are solved. Surely the problem will be solved, but I do not know when. I want to thank you for your support, I’ll be back soon, it’s a temporary goodbye”.
After 53 years in the Eurovision Song Contest, Salvador brought Portugal their first ever victory in the contest with his song “Amar Pelos Dois”. Leading up to the contest, Salvador was absent from the majority of rehearsals due to his health, and so his sister, Luisa Sobral, stood in. Luisa is also the songwriter and producer of the winning song. “Amar Pelos Dois” topped the charts in 5 countries, and made it into the top 10 of 8 other countries after the contest.
Since his win, Salvador has been congratulated by the President and Prime Minister of Portugal, been greeted by thousands upon his arrival back home, and performed at multiple concerts including one in late June for Pedrógão Grande Fire victims.
