Eurovision Spain has confirmed today that the Eurovision Spain Pre-Party will return in 2018 for its second edition. The event will take place on April 20 and 21 in the Spanish capital of Madrid. The main concert will take place on April 21 with the red carpet welcome party happening the day before.
The ESPre-Party was held for the first time last year and was deemed a huge success. It was granted “Official Related Event” status by the EBU, giving it the same status as the Eurovision preview concerts held in Amsterdam, London, Riga, Moscow and Tel Aviv. This made the event the first official Eurovision Song Contest related event to be held in Spain since the contest was hosted in Madrid in 1969.
12 countries originally signed up for the event but that number later grew to 21. Among them were the four of the top five placed artists at this year’s contest: Kristian Kostov (Bulgaria), Sunstroke Project (Moldova), Blanche (Belgium) and Robin Bengtsson (Sweden). Ruth Lorenzo (Spain 2014) was the presenter for the evening. Special guests included Suzy (Portugal 2014), Mirela (Spanish NF 2007, 2009 and 2017) and Brequette (Spanish NF 2014). The show took place in the Sala La Riviera and the Joy Eslava. 1,500 people attended the show. The event also made an impact on social media. 45,000 people watched the official live stream on Facebook, it made two trending topics on Twitter and around 100 journalists covered the event.
The Eurovision Spain team, along with their volunteers and collaborators, have already started working on next year’s event, which will mark the 50th anniversary of Spain’s first Eurovision win and the first contest to be organised in neighbouring Portugal, and have promised not just to meet the high standard of last year, but to surpass it completely. Details regarding next year’s event will soon be revealed on the official website of Eurovision Spain as well as their social media platforms.
