The date of the 2018 edition of Eurovision in Concert has been announced this evening. According to the event’s official Twitter account, the show will be taking place on Saturday 14th April in Amsterdam.
Eurovision in Concert is one of the biggest and most popular Eurovision preview parties, and takes place every year in Amsterdam in the run up to the contest. The show was founded by a group of Dutch fans, and has grown into a hugely popular event amongst fans and competing artists. Last year, 35 of the 42 competing countries in the 2017 contest attended Eurovision in Contest, a new record for the event. 2018 will mark the 10th anniversary of the show, and in light of this it remains to be seen if this record can be broken yet again.
According to their social media, further details about next year’s Eurovision in Concert will be released in due course. This will surely include further details about the venue and hosts of the event. The 2017 concert was held in Melkweg, a venue on one of Amsterdam’s famous canals located in the city centre, and was hosted by Iceland’s 1999 & 2005 entrant Selma, along with the Netherlands’ Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas.
Eurovision in Concert is one of many Eurovision preview events, and is the first to announce its dates for 2018, with dates still to be announced for the annual preview events held in London, Moscow, Madrid, Riga and Tel Aviv. However their announcement comes in the wake of the EBU’s official announcement of the dates and venue for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest itself. The show will take place on 8th, 10th and 12th May in Lisbon, Portugal. This follows Salvador Sobral’s victory in Kyiv back in May, who’s song “Amar Pelos Dois” brought Portugal their 1st win in almost 6 decades of participating in the contest.
