Madrid has been home for the WorldPride 2017 Festival, and over the last week, many Eurovision artists have performed in the different events all around the city. During the celebration of the Mr. Gay Gala, celebrated on the 29th of June, Spanish Eurovision hopeful Mirela Cabero performed at the “Puerta del Sol” stage.
Mirela (26), started her Eurovision career in 2004 when she took part in the Spanish selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (Eurojunior 2004). In that occasion, she came second to Maria Isabel and her song “Antes Muerta que Sencilla” who later won the contest in Lillehammer, Norway. From 2007 to 2009, Mirela submitted a song each year for the Spanish national selection. She also came second to D’NASH in 2007 with “La Reina de la Noche”. On last year’s selection, Objetivo Eurovision 2017, Mirela came second once more. Despite being the televoters favourite, the professional jury decided in favour of Manel Navarro who ended up representing the country in Kiev with “Do it for your lover”.
During her performance at Madrid’s WorldPride Festival this week, the public enjoyed her latest single “Contigo” (the runner-up song on Objetivo Eurovision 2017). During an interview after the show she said:
“After my previous attempts, I believed I had to allow some time before trying again. I needed time to prepare for something new and different. I truly thought 2017 was the right year for me.”
When asked about her future plans regarding the Eurovision Song Contest, she said:
“I would never get involved in a preselection again”
After last year’s polemic results at “Objetivo Eurovision 2017”, the artist seems to feel a bit tired of not obtaining the Spanish ticket for the contest. Despite her statement, Mirela still hasn’t answered the question “What would happen if RTVE offered directly to her the chance to represent Spain?”
