RTVSLO has confirmed to Eurovoix.com that they will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year.

RTVSLO the national broadcaster of Slovenia has stated that they have no plans to return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year in Tbilisi, Georgia. Slovenia withdrew from the contest last year citing changes to the rules of the contest. Last year a number of changes were made to the contest including moving the show to a Sunday afternoon and the removal of the public televote.

Slovenia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 in Malta and finished 3rd in last years contest in Sofia, Bulgaria where Lina Kuduzović performed “Prva ljubezen”. Slovenia was one of three countries who participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 but withdrew from competing in the contest last year. The other two countries were San Marino and Montenegro.

RTVSLO did however broadcast last years contest with commentary live on TVSLO 2, the show received just 28,000 viewers.


The 15th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest later this year in Tbilisi, Georgia. The contest is to be held at the Tbilisi Sports Palace on November 26. It is the first time that the three time winners of the contest have hosted Junior Eurovision.

Changes have been made to the rules of this years contest. The amount of a song that can be performed in English has been increased to 40% of the lyrics. While the number of voices on the backing track has been increased from five to six singers.

To date the following countries have confirmed their participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017:

  • Belarus
  • Cyprus
  • Georgia –  Host nation
  • Ireland
  • Malta
  • The Netherlands
  • Russia

The following countries participated in the 2016 contest but are yet to publicly confirm participation:

  • Albania
  • Armenia
  • Australia
  • Bulgaria
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • FYR Macedonia
  • Poland
  • Serbia
  • Ukraine

  1. montengro will probably wont return also because they faild to reach the final of eurovision a second time in a row.

    1. Man I hope Montenegro returns. If it turns out Montenegro continues to stay away from Junior Eurovision for another year, they’re in HUGE trouble.

      1. the onlu time they particioated were when they reached the final in eurovision 2014 and 2015 so i doubt we will see them in november in Georgia
