In Croatia over 666,000 viewers watched the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 as Jacques Houdek performed “My Friend”.
Just short of half of the television audience watched on Saturday night as Croatia performed in their second consecutive Eurovision Song Contest final. In total 666,498 viewers watched the final on HRT 1, as Portugal took their first victory in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Jacques Houdek said after the final,
Thank you to all who trusted us. We are delighted, satisfied with the performance and the 13th place and we hope that the Republic of Croatia will progress every year to Eurovision.
Croatia returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 following two years away from the contest. Before their return to the contest Croatia had failed to qualify for the final annually since 2010, since their return they have qualified every time.

Croatia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, they were one of three countries to debut in the contest that year. Croatia’s best result came in 1999 when Doris Dragovic finished 4th in Jerusalem. She performed the song “Marija Magdalena” which scored a total of 118 points, this included 12 points from Slovenia and Spain. Croatia returned to the contest in 2016 having withdrawn after the 2013 contest due to a string of poor results and financial difficulties.
