Sunstroke Project have brought Moldova their best result ever in the Eurovision Song Contest having finished third last night in Kyiv.
Moldova is celebrating after Sunstroke Project brought the country their best ever result at the Eurovision Song Contest. The band who had previously finished 21st at the contest in 2010, returned this year and finished 3rd in the final scoring 374 points. Overall Sunstroke Project finished 8th with the juries scoring 110 points and 3rd with the public scoring 264 points.
Sergei Ialoviţchi the lead singer of Sunstroke Project stated after their result that:
We pride ourselves very much that we got third. I want to say that dreams come true, just have to believe in them.
With fellow band member Serghei Stepanov adding:
It is a victory for our country. I hope you’re proud of us and what happened on stage, a miracle happened.
Sunstroke Project had already rebuilt Moldova’s hopes in the Eurovision Song Contest after qualifying for the final on Tuesday night. They brought Moldova back to their first Eurovision Song Contest final since 2013 when Aliona Moon performed “O Mie”.
Moldova’s previous best result came on their debut 12 years ago when the contest was last held in Kyiv, Ukraine. Zdob şi Zdub finished 6th in the final with the song “Bunica Bate Toba”. Up until last night no other Moldovan entry had ever managed to bring the country back into the top ten.

Moldova debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 when the contest was last held in Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2005 Moldova debuted in the contest alongside Bulgaria, while that year Hungary also returned to the contest having been absent since 1998. Moldova was in its worse run of results in their history in the contest, having failed to make the final since 2013. At the 2016 contest in Stockholm, the country finished 17th in their semi-final scoring a total of 33 points.
