In Austria an average of 328,000 viewers watched the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 live from Ukraine.
In Austria around 328,000 tuned in to watch the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest live from Kyiv, Ukraine. At its peak a total of 395,000 viewers watched the show. Compared to the equivalent semi final in 2016 viewing figures on average have fallen by 91,000 viewers. Austria were not competing in the first semi final, they will be competing tomorrow night in the second semi-final.
Nathan Trent was announced as the Austrian entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 on December 19th having been internally selected by the Austrian national broadcaster ORF. He is the first singer to be internally selected to represent Austria at the contest since 2014 when ORF selected Conchita Wurst and “Rise Like A Phoenix”.
He started writing his first songs when he was only eleven years old. After spending more than a decade acquiring new skills, he finally could concentrate on putting his songwriting to the next level. Years of experience with various music programs contributed to the development of producing and finding his personal style and the ability to fully express himself as an artist. Today he writes, composes, arranges and produces his own music.
In June 2016 Nathan released his debut single “Like It Is“. Shortly after the song was released Eberhard Forcher got in touch with him and ask him to be one of the contestants in the Austrian internal preliminaries.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
