According to the official Ukrainian website for this years contest, the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is being broadcast in Japan.
Eurovision.ua is reporting that a commentary team from Japan is attending this years contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Unlike in previous years the European Broadcasting Union has not published a list of the non-participating broadcasters who are showing the contest internationally.
The following broadcasters have confirmed that they are broadcasting this years contest:
- China – Hunan Television – All shows live
- Greenland – KNR – Only broadcasting the final on time delay
- Kazakhstan – Khabar Agency – All shows live
- United States – Logo TV – Only broadcasting the final
The Eurovision Song Contest was last broadcast in Japan in 2000 when NHK broadcast the contest on delay on July 14th. Before 2000 the only previous broadcasts occurred during the 1970s.
A total of 42 countries are competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Returning to the Eurovision stage are Portugal and Romania who both took a year out from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina and Russia have however withdrawn from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina has withdrawn due to financial difficulties at the national broadcaster, BHRT. While Russia has withdrawn following Julia Samoilova being banned by Ukrainian Authorities from entering Ukraine. The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held on the following dates:
- Semi Final 1 – 9 May
- Semi Final 2 – 11 May
- Final – 13 May
