The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine will be broadcast in Greenland by national broadcaster KNR.
KalaallitNunaataRadioathe national broadcaster of Greenland has confirmed to Eurovoix.com that they will be broadcasting the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The show will be broadcast on a four-hour delay including Danish commentary provided by DR 1.
This is not the first time that Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa has broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest in the past, the last time being for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, Germany. Only once has a song in Greenlandic attempted to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, with one song competing in the Danish selection during the 1970s.
Broadcasters who have shown the contest in previous years include:
- Canada – OUTtv (2014 to 2015)
- China – Hunan Television (2015 to date)
- Faroe Islands – KVP (Live broadcast in 2011 & 2014)
- Greenland – KNR (Delayed broadcast in 2011)
- Kazakhstan – Khabar Agency (2010 to date)
- Kosovo – RTK
- Kyrgyzstan – KRTK (2012)
- New Zealand – UKTV (2014 to 2016)
- United States – LogoTV (2016 to date)
To date Kazakhstan, Greenland, China and the United States are the only non-competing countries to confirm that they will be broadcasting the contest. UKTV in New Zealand announced last month that after three years they will not broadcast the contest. Eurovoix.com has also contacted the Kosovar broadcaster RTK regarding whether they will broadcast this years contest but have not yet received a response.
A total of 42 countries are competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Returning to the Eurovision stage are Portugal and Romania who both took a year out from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina and Russia have however withdrawn from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina has withdrawn due to financial difficulties at the national broadcaster, BHRT. While Russia has withdrawn following Julia Samoilova being banned by Ukrainian Authorities from entering Ukraine. The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held on the following dates:
- Semi Final 1 – 9 May
- Semi Final 2 – 11 May
- Final – 13 May
