Latvia: Aminata Announced as Spokesperson

Aminata will be revealing the jury vote in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine for Latvia.

Aminata returns to the Eurovision Song Contest two years after representing her country in Vienna. The Latvian music represented her country in 2015 in Vienna and came 6th giving the country its best result in a decade with the song ‘Love Injected’. This gave the country its highest ever score of 186 points. Then, in 2016, she teamed up with young musician Justs Sirmais to write the song ‘Heartbeat’ which placed 15th in the final with 131 points. She is one of a number of past Eurovision participants to have already been announced as a spokesperson this year, also announced are:

  • Belarus – Alyona Lanskaya – Eurovision 2013
  • Georgia – Nika Kocharov – Eurovision 2016
  • Netherlands – Douwe Bob – Eurovision 2016

Providing commentary at this years contest is Valters Frīdenbergs, he represented Latvia at Eurovision 2005 in Kyiv. He was part of the duo Walters & Kazha who finished 5th in the final of the contest scoring a total of 153 points.

Triana Park are representing Latvia at this years contest in Ukraine. The group were selected after winning the Latvian selection process, Supernova with over 50% of the vote. Triana Park will be performing the song “Line” in the Ukrainian Capital, and have promoted themselves internationally before the contest appearing at a number of pre parties.

Latvia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, being the last of the Baltic nations to join the contest. On their debut Brainstorm finished 3rd overall with the song “My Star”. It was in 2002 that Latvia won the contest, with Marie N taking a surprise victory with the song “I Wanna”. Latvia onl participated in 2002 thanks to the withdrawal of Portugal from that year’s contest. Latvia struggled in to the contest after 2002 failing to qualify for the final for six years between 2009 and 2014. In the past two years Latvia has finished 6th in the final and 15th in the final.
