San Marino: Lia Fiorio & Gigi Restivo Announced as Commentators & Spokespersons

San Marino RTV has announced that Lia Fiorio and Gigi Restivo will commentate and be the spokespersons for San Marino at Eurovision 2017.

Lia Fiorio and Gigi Restivo will once again be the commantators for San Marino RTV at the Eurovision Song Contest. The duo have commentated at every contest that San Marino has attended since their debut in 2008. This year the two commentators will break the record for the most shows presented in Italian by a commentator, having now commentated on 24 shows. The previous record of 20 shows was held by Giovanni Bertini who commentated for RSI between 1961 and 1983.

The broadcaster also announced that Lia and Gigi will be the spokespersons for San Marino in the Grand Final. This is the first time that San Marino’s points will be announced by two individuals having previously been announced by the likes of Valentina Monetta, Michele Perniola and Nicola Della Vella. Lia and Gigi will not be travelling to Kyiv to commentate instead presenting from the RTV San Marino studios.

Valentina Monetta & Jimmie Wilson will represent San Marino with the song “Spirit Of The Night” at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Valentina Monetta is returning to the Eurovision Song Contest for a fourth time having last participated in the contest in 2014. She is to date the only singer from the country to have taken them to a Eurovision final. Jimmie Wilson is an American born singer currently living in Germany. The song has been composed by Ralph Seigel, with the lyrics by Steven Barnacle and Jutta Staudenmayer.

San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, they finished last in their semi final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for a third consecutive year in 2014, at the contest in Copenhagen she performed “Maybe” and went on to finish 24th in the final scoring 14 points.
