The Eurovision version of “Occidentali’s Karma”, the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 has been released this evening.
This evening the Eurovision version of the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine has been released. The song has become a huge hit in Italy since winning the Sanremo Festival in February, having now sold over 100,000 copies and becoming certified double platinum. The official music video has over 57 million views on YouTube, and was number one in Italy for three weeks following it’s Sanremo victory. His live Sanremo performance of the song, which is featured on the official Eurovision YouTube channel, has over 4 million views and is the most-watched 2017 entry on the channel so far.
Francesco will release his new album just two weeks before he takes to the stage in Kyiv. His previous albums Greitist Iz (released 2013) and Eternamente ora reached number 62 and 18 in the Italian album charts respectively. However it is expected that this next album will peak much higher, following the huge success of “Occidentali’s Karma”.
Francesco’s commercial success follows his victory at the 67th Sanremo Festival. He is the first winner of the competition to win the Campioni (Big Artist) contest only one year after winning the Newcomer contest. Hours after his victory, he was announced as Italy’s representative at this year’s Eurovision, and he has since been the hot favourite to win in May.
