The Croatian entry for the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine “My Friend” has been revealed this afternoon in Zagreb.
“My Friend” which is performed in both English and Italian is sung by Jacques Houdek. The song that Jacques Houdek will be performing in Kyiv has been in the works for over eight months. Mr Željko Mesar, the Croatian Head of Delegation added that the song is a ‘celebration of diversity’ (in-keeping with this year’s contest theme).
With regards to the stage performed Mr Mesar stated that:
The team is being developed, planned two instrumentalists – violinist and cellist, and three strong backup singers.
35-year old Jacques will be singing “My Friend” at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. He was born in Zagreb, and has been singing professionally since 2002. Since then he has won countless awards in Croatia for his music, and is currently serving as a mentor on the Voice. During the first season of the show he mentored Nina Kraljić, who went on to represent Croatia in last year’s contest in Stockholm. Jacques himself has tried to represent Croatia several times in the past, the most recent attempt being in 2011 when he finished in 2nd place to Daria Kinzer in Croatia’s national final.

Croatia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, they were one of three countries to debut in the contest that year. Croatia’s best result came in 1999 when Doris Dragovic finished 4th in Jerusalem. She performed the song “Marija Magdalena” which scored a total of 118 points, this included 12 points from Slovenia and Spain. Croatia returned to the contest in 2016 having withdrawn after the 2013 contest due to a string of poor results and financial difficulties. Nina Kraljic finished 23rd in the final, the highest points she received came in the form of 10 points from the Macedonian televote.
