Tonight: Three More Countries Select Eurovision Entries for Kyiv

Tonight across Europe, Ukraine, Moldova and Denmark will select their entries for the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. While Iceland and Sweden are holding semi-finals in their selection process. Lithuania also continue the search tonight.

Ukraine – Vidbir – Final – 18:00 CET

A total six artists are competing in the final of Vidbir, Ukraine’s national selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest, one of which will represent the country on home soil in Kyiv this May.

Alma and Kasia Moś have been announced as the guest performers at the final of Ukraine’s selection process for this years Eurovision Song Contest.

Alma who is representing France with the song “Requiem” will be performing as one of the interval acts at this weekend’s final in Kyiv, Ukraine. She will be joined by the Polish participant Kasia Moś who is representing her country with “Flashlight”.

The announcement of Alma and Kasia’s performance in the Ukrainian selection brings the number of Eurovision 2017 participants who have performed in the selection to five. In the first semi-final, Tamara Gelickhaze and Navi performed, while in the third semi-final Manel Navarro performed for Spain.

The winner of the Ukrainian selection process will be decided by 50% jury voting and 50% public televote.  The jury is made up of composer and producer Konstantin Meladze, Eurovision winner for Ukraine Jamala, and Andriy Danylko who represented Ukraine in 2007 as the Verka Serduchka.

In last years Ukrainian selection final, Jamala was selected to represent her country in Stockholm despite not winning the jury vote. Hardkiss topped the jury voting, but finished in second place with the public. Jamala went on to win the contest thanks to receiving 37.77% of the vote for her song “1944”, which went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest.

Tonight Moldova conclude their two-day national selection ‘O melodie pentru Europa 2017′ to select their representative for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Eight artists are taking part in the final tonight, cut down from a list of fourteen during last night’s semi-final. The winner will be selected using a 50/50 voting system of public televote and jury opinion combined.


The first semi-final saw the return of SunStroke Project, the Moldovan representatives in 2010 who performed “Run Away” alongside Olia Tira. Their performance is often remembered by fans as the so-called “Epic Sax Guy”, who later became an international icon. In 2010 they qualified for the final in Oslo, Norway, and achieved 22nd place with 27 points. They are hoping to represent Moldova once again with “Hey Mamma”.

The ten songs that are competing to represent Denmark at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine were released earlier this week. A record of 1,115  songs were submitted to compete in this year’s Danish selection. Denmark are hoping this year to return to the Eurovision Song Contest final for the first time since they hosted the contest in 2014.

The final of Melodi Grand Prix 2017 takes place in Herning, the winner will be decided after two rounds of voting. The first round will see the public and jury vote, with the three songs that receive the most votes going through to the super final. The jury this year is made up of five Eurovision superfans.


The Olsen Brothers who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 with “Fly On The Wings Of Love” will be performing at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017. This years Melodi Grand Prix marks 60 years of the competition making it the longest running entertainment show on Danish television.

It will be great to return to the Grand Prix stage. The victory at Melodi Grand Prix and subsequently at the Eurovision Song Contest helped to change our lives, so it’s a big dream come true when we again stand on the stage and can help to celebrate the big 60-year anniversary.

Since winning the Eurovision Song Contest they have released twelve more albums, including their most recent “Brothers to Brothers” in 2013. They have also attempted to represent Denmark again, finishing 2nd in 2005 and 7th in 2007.

Sweden – Melodifestivalen – Semi Final Four – 20:00 CET

Semi-final four of Melodifestivalen 2017 takes place in Skellefteå at 20:00 CET with a selection of well-established artists taking to stage for the first time this year. Returning to the contest this year are Jon Henrik Fjallgren, Wiktoria, Sara Varga and this year’s headlining act; Loreen. New to the contest; Axel Schylström, Les Gordons and Alice. Jon Henrik came second in 2015 to Mans Zelmerlow who went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest. Loreen is no newcomer to the contest, winning Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision itself in 2012 with the song; ‘Euphoria’. Wiktoria also returns in 2017 after reaching the final of last year’s contest.


The top two most voted for artists will go straight to the final of Melodifestivalen, while third and fourth place will go through to Andra Chasen (Second chance). The remaining three acts will be knocked out of the competition.

8 singers will be returning to the Eurovizijos stage all competing for just four places in the next round of the selection process.

The Lithuanian jury is comprised of LRT executive Darius Užkuraitis, musicologist Ramūnas Zilnys, opera singer Nomeda Kazlaus, and conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius. This jury will make up 25% of the vote. A further 25% of the vote will come from an as yet undisclosed international jury of music experts. The remaining 50% shall come from the public televote.


The final will be held on March 11 with at least six singers competing for the right to represent Lithuania at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv Ukraine.
