The running order draw for the first four finalists in Festival da Canção 2017 has taken place in Portugal.

The first semi final of Festival da Canção took place on Sunday night with four artists qualifying for the final in two weeks time. The running order for the four qualifiers in the final has now been determined.

  • Salvador Sobral – Amar pelos dois – Performing 4th
  • Fernando Daniel – Poema a dois – Performing 5th
  • Deolinda Kinzimba – O que eu vi nos meus sonhos – Performing 7th
  • Viva La Diva – Nova glória – Performing 8th

The four finalists from the first semi final were selected by a combination of public televote and a jury made up of 10 individuals from the Portuguese music industry as well as performers. A number of changes have been made to this years Portuguese selection process. This includes the decision by RTP, Portugal’s national broadcaster, to drop the language rule, and allow songs to be entered in any language. Salvador Sobral is currently the favourite to win the competition, with his performance on Sunday night being viewed over 100,000 times on YouTube.

The Second Semi Final will take place at 21:05 (GMT) on Sunday the 26th of February, and will be broadcast on RTP 1. It will again see another eight singers battle it out for the remaining four places in the Final.

Eurovision Song Contest 2017 will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine with the semi finals taking place on 9th and 11th May and the final on May 13th.

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 represented by António Calvário, the country finished last scoring nul points. To date the best result of Portugal in the contest is 6th place. This 6th place came in 1996 when Lúcia Moniz performed “O meu coração não tem cor” on stage in Oslo, Norway. She scored 92 points receiving 12 points from both Norway and Cyprus. Since their debut in 1964 Portugal has missed a total of five contests, the latest being in 2016.
