Timebelle have won Switzerland’s selection show Die Entscheidungsshow 2017, and will represent the country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Die Entscheidungsshow 2017, hosted by Sven Epiney and Green Room host Stefan Büsser, saw 6 artists battle it out for the victory, and the grand prize of representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Timebelle came out on top with their song “Apollo”. The winner was decided by 100% public televote, as seen in Switzerland’s selection show since the year 2000. This is opposed to the split public televote and jury vote that we see in most other national selections.
Once Timebelle were announced as winners, the lead singer had this to say:
“Thank you to my beautiful team, I really want to say thank you. We made this moment beautiful”
Performing as an interval act tonight was Switzerland’s 2014 representative Sebalter, and his new single “Weeping Willow” from his latest album “Awakening”. Sebalter represented Switzerland at Eurovision 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with his song “Hunter of Stars”, where he finished 13th in the final with 64 points.
Competing in the show tonight were:
- Nadya – Fire In The Sky
- Ginta Biku – Cet Air La
- Michele – Two Faces
- Freschta – Gold
- Shana Pearson – Exodus
- Timebelle – Apollo
Switzerland join 5 other countries that have both their entrants and songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. So far, these are Albania, Belarus, Finland, Georgia and the United Kingdom.

Switzerland hosted the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 a contest that they won. Lys Assia won the first contest with the song “Refrain”, it wasn’t until 1988 that Switzerland would win the contest again. At the contest in Dublin it was Celine Dion with “Ne partez pas sans moi” who beat the United Kingdom to victory by just 1 point. In recent years Switzerland has struggled finishing last five times since 2004. In the past two years Switzerland has failed to reach the final.
