Switzerland: “My greatest quest in life is to know myself” – Nadya – Interview

Switzerland’s selection show for Eurovision 2017 is coming up this Sunday, and we spoke to participant Nadya about her preparations ahead of the contest.

Nadya is one of the 6 artists that will be taking part in the final, which will be live on Sunday 5th February. In our interview, she talks about her song “The Fire In The Sky”, her debut album, and even what she would take to a desert island.

Thanks so much for talking to us, with the Swiss final drawing ever closer how are your rehearsals going and how your expectations?

You know, so close to the show it’s hard to keep track of everything but rehearsals are going great and I am really looking forward to the 5th! If I manage to give the audience 100% of my energy and my emotion for those three minutes and create a magical moment, it will already be a victory. I’m not really thinking about the results, I’ll do that after my performance 😉

What was it that made you decide to submit “The Fire In the Sky” to compete in the selection?

My producer Ricardo Sanz dreamt of this song the night before he wrote it. And in my opinion, the songs that are created by the subconscious are the strongest, because they tell you what your soul is craving for. The message of this song is very important to me. It’s about valuing what we have because everything can change in the blink of an eye. Our society is so concerned with first world problems that we forget about what really matters, which is love. The love to your family, your friends, your passion. It’s so easy to complain and so hard to see the light in your life at all times. And I hope that this song will make more people be happy with what they got.

Last year was an amazing year for you including taking part in “Die grossten Schweizer Talente”, what was your highlight and what did it teach you?

It was a great experience for me to be part of such a big show. The people were great and we had a real blast. It was my first time on TV and I am really grateful for everything it taught me. But of course the highlight was that I’ve signed my first record deal. I’ve been waiting all my life for such an amazing opportunity and it’s really exciting that it’s all just getting started. So as amazing as last year was, nothing can beat the release of my debut album this year 🙂

Can you tell us more about the song “The Fire in the Sky” and the message of it?

The songs that I write are really personal, they reflect who I am inside and what matters to me. I want to give my audience more confidence, I want them to feel great about themselves. I want them to know that it’s absolutely unnecessary to suppress genuine emotion and that the greatest virtue of humanity is honesty, especially toward yourself. My greatest quest in life is to know myself and to find out, what it means to be happy for me as an individual and writing songs brings me closer to my goal, word by word. 🙂

You’ve been working on your debut album, what do you want people to take away from your music?

It is my belief that every person is different and at the same time equal and deserving of the same respect as everyone else. I want people to stand up for each other, no matter what colour their skin is or which god they’re praying to or who they love. I want people to learn to think independently, without always caring what other people might think. It is such a waste of time and energy to always worry about how people perceive you. The most important thing is that YOU are happy. On the other hand it’s also a complete waste of time and energy to try to tell other people how they’re supposed to live their lives. But some people are either bored and have nothing else to think about or they are scared of stepping outside of their comfort zone. I want my music to give people comfort without a specific “zone” and I want it to make them understand that real love and passion can get you anywhere you want. I just wanna spread all the love 😀

What would representing your country at Eurovision mean to you?

My mother is Ukrainian and in case I get to go to Kyiv, I would have the amazing opportunity to represent my home country in my home country! 🙂
And of course it would be a great chance to show Europe how underrated Switzerland really is.

Now to round off here’s a fun question: You are stranded on a desert island you are allowed one thing, what would it be and why?

I would definitely take a grand piano, because during the day I could just play and sing, which would make time just fly by. And during the night it would give me shelter, as I could sleep under it! 😛

Thanks so much for your time, do you have a message for your fans and the readers of
