ESC’17: Festivals, Concerts & Theater To Be Held Alongside Eurovision 2017

The Kyiv City State Administration has confirmed that a large number of cultural events are planned to be held alongside Eurovision 2017.

Art Festivals, Concerts and Public Theater performances are to be held alongside the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, as the city focuses on bringing further attention to the Kyiv during the competition. The announcement of the events follows meetings between the Kyiv City State Administration and the City of Stockholm, who were the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

The City will be hosting an International Art Festival, Face of Art and Contemporary Art Festival, Kyiv Art Week during the weeks of the Eurovision Song Contest. The festivals will display the works of both Ukrainian and international artists. Alongside the Art Festivals, the National Opera of Ukraine will stage a number of concerts, while other theatres in Kyiv will be performing in public places.

Furthermore Troyitskiy, Sofiyskiy, Kontraktoviy and Poshtoviy Squares will be transformed into recreational spaces for the use of both visitors to the city and the residents of Kyiv. All these events are part of a wider plan to promote Kyiv and Ukraine to the rest of the world, using the Eurovision Song Contest as a platform for change.

This week has seen a large number of announcements regarding the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. This includes the reveal of the branding for the contest, the stage design as well as the semi final allocation draw. Furthermore tickets for the contest are expected to go on sale next week.


A total of 43 countries are to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Returning to the Eurovision stage are Portugal and Romania who both took a year out from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina has however withdrawn from the contest due to financial difficulties at the national broadcaster, BHRT. The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held on the following dates:

  • Semi Final 1 – 9 May
  • Semi Final 2 – 11 May
  • Final – 13 May
