MRT the national broadcaster of FYR Macedonia has now shortlisted the songs that could represent the country at Eurovision 2017.
The decision on which song Jana Burceska will perform at the Eurovision Song Contest is drawing closer, with MRT having now decided on a shortlist of songs for the singer, Jana Burčeska. MRT made an open call for songs to represent FYR Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the deadline for submissions being on December 25. The number of songs that have been placed on the shortlist has not been announced by the broadcaster.
Jana Burčeska rose to prominence in FYR Macedonia having finished 5th in the first series of Macedonian Idol. In 2011 Jana took on the role of ambassador in the campaign of UNICEF joint national campaign project – “Together for Schools without Violence”. In 2012 She debuted on stage in Skopje Fest with the song “Bi bila tvoja”. She went on to compete in Skopje Fest again in 2013 alongside Miki Sekulovsk, she returned again in 2015.
Jana has stated in previous interviews that her passion for singing began at the age of four with her mother. It was at this point that her vocal talent was recognised by her music teacher who decided that she should go for singing lessons. During her time on the Idol Jana said that she grew as a performer, she had gone into the competition of no expectations of reaching the top five.
Over 100 songs were submitted to represent FYR Macedonia at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. MRT has previously stated that they were looking for a song which is modern and incorporates the national culture of the country to be showcased on the European stage.
