Greek media is today reporting two names that are likely to be going head to head in a national final. The two acts named as potential entrants are Demy and Stereo Soul.
It has been suggested that the NF will be made up of four songs, with each act having two each. The final is expected to take place sometime in February.
Demy is a household name in Greece who has achieved several number one singles. Recently the singer has spoken publically about her love of Eurovision and desire to represent Greece soon with a dance number. The singer already has a (rather tenuous) link to Eurovision already, having performed in the 2013 Greek NF, Eurosong 2013 – A MAD show, alongside Dima Bilan, singing his 2008 winning song ‘Believe’.
The performance can be viewed here:
Stereo Soul are a relatively new name in the Greek music industry, only debuting last year. They made their debut on the fourth series of Greece’s edition of the X Factor on Skai TV. The duo made it to the final of the show, and ended up in 3rd place.
Their final performance caan be found here:
What has not been revealed is exactly the full format of the national final, such as whether there will be multiple rounds. In recent years, the private channel MAD TV has hosted a national final on behalf of ERT due to the financial constraints the broadcaster has faced, but it is unknown if such a collaboration will take place again this year. The exact date of the contest is not known as well. It is however suggested that a national final is set to take place in mid to late February.
Greece and ERT will be hoping to improve their luck after a string of unsuccessful attempts in recent years, cullminating in the country failing to qualify for the final for the first time last year in Stockholm. The song ‘Utopian land’ by Argo only managed to come 16th with 44 points in a field of 18 songs.
