The Israeli selection process for Eurovision 2017, Rising Star, will begin on January 2 with the first show of the season being broadcast.
Israel’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 gets underway on January 2 as the first show of “Rising Star for Eurovision 2017” is broadcast on Channel 2. Rising Star has been used to select Israel’s entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest since 2015, furthermore since 2016 the show has been solely dedicated to find both the singer and the song for the Eurovision Song Contest.
On the jury for the upcoming season of Rising Star are:
- Asaf Amadursky
- Harel Skaat – Represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo, Norway
- Keren Peles
- Ben-El Tavori
The contest is being hosted by Rotem Sela, Assi Azar and Yael Goldman. A total of 10 shows will be broadcast over the series, the date of the final show of Rising Star 2017 has not been announced.
Since the adoption of Rising Star as the Israeli selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest, Israel’s results in the contest have improved. In the past two years in which Rising Star has been used Israel has qualified for the final. This ended a four year run of Israeli entries failing to qualify for the final, including former Eurovision winner, Dana Internation in 2011.

Israel debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973, on their debut Ilanit finished 4th with the song “Ey Sham”. Israel’s first victory came in 1978 with Izar Cohen and the Alphabeta, Israel won again the following year represented by Gali Atari & Milk and Honey. Israel’s most recent victory came in 1998 when Dana International performed “Diva” in Birmingham, she beat Malta to victory in a tense voting sequence. Israel struggled in the contest during late 00s and early 10s, but in the past two years has qualified for the final.
