Hungary officially debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, having failed to qualify for the 1993 contest by finishing last in the pre-selection round in Ljubljana. On their debut in 1994 Friderika Bayer finished 4th with the song “Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?”, this remains their best result to date. The country competed yearly from 1994 to 1998 before withdrawing until 2005, then returning again from 2007-2009. The country returned in 2011 for the final time and since then has qualified for the final every year. András Kállay-Saunders brought Hungary a 5th place finish in 2014 with the song “Running”.
