Today, SRF have revealed a list of six artists set to compete in the Swiss national final early next year, in the hope of representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.
A jury made up of 21 individuals selected the songs in a round of the competition known as the “Livecheck”. In total, 160 songs were submitted to the competition this year. Overall the number of submissions is down by just seven songs since 2016 when a total of 167 songs were submitted to the online platform for the SRF/RTR selection. The number of songs submitted through the RTS and RSI selections is unknown.

Lidia Isac, who represented Moldova in Stockholm earlier this year, attempted to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in a duet with Daniele Guastella. Lidia and Daniele submitted the song “The Life Beyond”, which is a ballad performed in both Italian and English – however failed to pass through the most recent stage of the competition.
Among the finalists selected is one returning name to the televised selection. Timebelle finished runners-up to Melanie Rene in the 2015 selection. Also in 2015 Shana Pearson made it through to the livecheck with the song “Kevlar Heart” but missed out on a place in the final.
Switzerland is revamping their selection process this year having failed to make a final since 2014. The country has removed the regional quotas regarding the songs making it through to the final. Furthermore, SRF/RTR has removed the online platform from their selection process. The new selection is hoped to bring Switzerland their best result in the contest since Sebalter in Copenhagen.
The final of the Swiss selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is to take place on February 5th in Zurich.
