Azerbaijan has today announced that Diana Hajiyeva will be representing the country at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Azerbaijan has opted for a third year running to internally select their entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest. Diana Hajiyeva who performs under the name Dihaj will be representing Azerbaijan at next years contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Diana has previously attempted to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest, having taken part in the 2011 selection process.

Diana Hajiyeva was born in Baku in 1989. As a child she has taken music lessons, starting with the piano took from there she gained an interest in jazz music. She went on to study at the Baku Music Academy is included. “Choral Conducting” are to the profession. During her studies she went on to work with Elnur Huseynov who represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2008 and 2015. In 2011 she attempted to represent her country at Eurovision, but failed to qualify from her heat.
In September Azerbaijan changed their Head of Delegation at the Eurovision Song Contest. Tamilla Shirinova was dropped as the nation’s head of delegation. Tamilla Shirinova became the Azerbaijani Head of Delegation in 2015 following on from Husniye Maharramova.
In Stockholm earlier this year Azerbaijan finished in 17th place with the song ‘Miracle’ performed by Samra, selected internally. The song was penned by Sweden’s Henrik Wikström, the man behind another thirty-seven Eurovision national final entries, most of which were in his home nation – including the song ‘Invincible’ by Eurovision winner, Carola.
The contest’s most Eastern participating country (excluding Australia) has appeared in nine consecutive contests and never failed to reach the final; their best result was in 2011 when the country finished in first place, hosting in Baku the following year. Azerbaijan first participated in 2008 with Elnur & Samir performing ‘Day After Day.
