Isaiah Firebrace the latest winner of the X Factor Australia has put his name forward to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
17 year old X Factor winner Isaiah Firebrace has said he would represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest if he was given the opportunity. Speaking to TV Tonight, Isaiah spoke of what it meant to see Australian artists performing on the Eurovision Song Contest. When asked if he would like to participate in Eurovision, he said:
It would definitely be something I would love to do, that would be the dream. And what if I won?
After winning the X Factor just over a week ago the young singer has gone on to release his first single “It’s Gotta Be You”. The song has peaked at number 5 in the Australian Artists Singles Charts, with the song also entering the download charts in Finland.
Isaiah is from the small town of Moama in New South Wales and has spent the past months working towards his victory in X Factor. The singer was invited by the producers to compete in this years contest having been knocked out early in 2015. He spent the months before the contest travelling to Melbourne every weekend to take part in vocal lessons at the Jaanz School of Singing.
One of the biggest influence on Isaiah has been Jessica Mauboy who finished second in Australian Idol in 2006. She went on to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 as part of an interval act in the second semi final, she was the first Australian act invited to perform on behalf of her country on the Eurovision stage. He said:
I’ve always looked up to her, she’s come so far and I was inspired by someone who is indigenous doing such great things.
Australia will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest for a third time in 2017. SBS are currently in discussions with a number of record labels and managers to decide who will be representing the country on stage in Kyiv, Ukraine. All of the countries previous entrants have risen to fame thanks to participation in either the X Factor or Idol.
