RUV will select their participant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 on March 11 with six songs competing in Söngvakeppnin 2017 final.
Iceland has opened their call for songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The selection will be split into two semi finals and a final which will be held on March 11, the winner will go on to represent Iceland at the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The dates of the shows are as follows:
- Semi Final 1 – February 25
- Semi Final 2 – March 4
- Final – March 11
A total of 12 songs will be selected to take part in the two live semi finals, three songs from each semi final will be selected to go through to the final. In the final the songs will be voted on by 50% televote and 50% jury to select the two super finalists, the two super finalists will be performed again, the winner will be the song that receives the highest televotes.
For those interested in participating in the Icelandic selection process, songs must be written by Icelandic nationals or residents. If an international author is involved the song must involve 2/3 of the music and half of the lyrics are written by Icelandic nationals. All songs in the selection will be performed in Icelandic in the semi finals, in the final the song must be performed in the language that will be used at Eurovision.
