Giorgos Michailidis has been selected to represent Cyprus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song “Dance Floor”.
Giorgos Michailidis (George Michaelides) has been selected to represent Cyprus for the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Malta. CyBC the national broadcaster said a total of seven songs were submitted for the Junior Eurovision selection process. The selection of the Cypriot entry was decided by a five member jury made up of:
- Salomi Chatzineofytou
- Lia Kasiou
- Spyros Spyrou
- Florentios Tsoukas
- Stéfanos Charalámpous
Cyprus are returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year having last participated in the 2014 contest. Giorgos is only the fourth male singer that Cyprus has sent to the contest, the last being Yiorgos Ioannides in 2007, he went on to finish 14th with 29 points. Giorgos is the second male singer to be selected to compete in Junior Eurovision this year.
To date a total of 16 countries have confirmed their participation in this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Both Cyprus and Poland are returning to the contest having both not competed in last years contest in Bulgaria. While Montenegro, San Marino and Slovenia have opted not to compete in this years contest in Malta. TVM this years host broadcaster had stated that a total of 18 countries would compete in this years contest. Israel is the only country to publicly state that they may return this year.
