RAI the Italian national broadcaster has this morning confirmed that they will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Italy’s confirmation of participation brings the number of countries confirmed as participating or stating an interest in participating to 31. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, having last participated in the contest in 1997. Since then they have four top ten finishes, their best being a 3rd place in 2015 represented by Il Volo.
RAI has already revealed the dates of Sanremo 2017, but has yet to confirmed whether the contest will be used to select Italy’s Eurovision participant. The festival which will be held for the 67th time next year will be held from February 7th through to February 11. The festival will as ever be held in the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, Liguria and hosted by Carlo Conti for a third year in a row.
To date a total of 31 countries are reported to have either confirmed their participation in next years contest, or stated their interest in competing in Kyiv. To date 11 countries from last years contest have yet to publicly state their decision on Eurovision participation, while Bosnia & Herzegovina is looking likely to withdraw.
